Ethicon offers three types of resposable trocar systems:

Bladeless Trocar Obturator and Housing Assembly

Our disposable obturator and housing assembly, with a reusable (sterilizable) sleeve. The sleeve is 75mm or 100mm in length. The assembly and sleeve are designed to only be used together.

The obturator has a clear, tapered optical element that, when used with an endoscope, provides visibility of individual tissue layers during insertion. The sleeve housing contains a seal and internal flapper valve to minimize gas leakage when instruments are inserted or withdrawn. There is a stopcock valve for insufflation.

Dilating-Tip Obturator and Housing Assembly System

Our disposable obturator and housing assembly are used in conjunction with a reusable sleeve. The dilating-tip trocar consists of a flat-bladed tip and a spring-loaded blade shield. The shield is designed to cover the tip to protect internal structures from puncture or laceration once the abdominal or thoracic cavity has been entered. The trocar sleeve housing contains a sealing system to minimize gas leakage when instruments are inserted or withdrawn. It includes a stopcock valve for insufflation.

Blunt-Tip Trocar System

Our disposable blunt-tip obturator, housing assembly and adjustable plug assist with trocar stability in the patient. The obturator has a blunt plastic tip that gently moves aside any internal viscera that may be adjacent to the abdominal or thoracic wall. The trocar sleeve housing contains a sealing system to minimize gas leakage when instruments are inserted or withdrawn and includes a stopcock valve for insufflation.

Resposable Accessories are designed to be used solely with the resposable trocar systems.

Disposable Housing

Our trocar sleeve housing is a sterile single-patient-use device with a reusable (sterilizable) sleeve. It is part of the resposable trocar system. It contains an outer gasket and internal sealing system to minimize gas leakage when instruments are inserted or withdrawn.

The trocar size corresponds to the maximum size of the instrument, and there is a stopcock valve for gas insufflation. The housing is designed to be used solely with the resposable trocar system.

Reusable Cannula Sleeve

Our reusable trocar sleeve is made of polyphenylsulfone plastic and is available in both smooth and stability-sleeve configurations. It is part of the resposable trocar system. The sleeve must be sterilized prior to use (packaged non-sterile), and is designed to be used solely with the resposable trocar system.

Reducer Caps

ENDOPATH® ONESEAL Reducer Cap

This reducer cap is a sterile single-patient-use device. It is designed to snap into the open end of an ENDOPATH 10/11mm and 10/12mm Trocar sleeve housing. The main body is made of molded plastic and contains a self-adjusting seal, accommodating instruments ranging from 5mm to 12mm diameter where indicated. Once the cap is attached, an instrument (smaller diameter than the Trocar) can be inserted without loss of pneumoperitoneum. Latches ensure that the reducer cap is held securely in place during insertion. The reducer cap is easily removed by pulling or pushing up on its side.

MULTISEAL® Reducer Cap

This reducer cap is a sterile single-patient-use device available in a variety of sizes, which can be used with a wide range of instruments and any size ENDOPATH Trocar. It is designed to snap into the open end of the trocar sleeve housing.

The main body and unique flip top are made of molded plastic and contain a sealing gasket. Once the top is closed, an instrument (smaller diameter than the Trocar) can be inserted without loss of pneumoperitoneum. With the flip top open, the larger instruments can be inserted into the trocar without removing the cap. The open flip top can also be pushed aside by pressing it against the trocar sleeve housing. The MULTISEAL Reducer Cap is easily removed by pulling up on the hinged side of the main body pull-tab. Latches ensure that the reducer cap is held securely in place during insertion.
