Foreign materials such as sutures lower the number of bacteria required to cause an infection.179 When implanted, sutures are rapidly coated with tissue protein, which creates sites for bacterial colonization.185,190 This colonization can lead to biofilm formation185 and biofilm formation increases the difficulty of treating an infection.190

Each layer has different wound healing process

Epithelization is not the completion of healing, as each layer has a different wound healing timeline and process. For fascia and muscle (mesodermal origin), granulation tissue is formed, and repair is achieved with fibrosis. It takes time to achieve strength.522,523

Good cosmesis and high patient satisfaction

When used with sutures, DERMABOND ADVANCED Adhesive was shown to add 75% more strength to wound closure than sutures alone.1 It provides a microbial barrier for at least 72 hours against organisms responsible for SSIs.117,192 It showed in vitro inhibition of gram-positive bacteria (MRSA & MRSE) and gram-negative bacteria (E. coli).
