Hemorrhoidectomy

Hemorrhoidectomy

The two treatments of hemorrhoids described below have both been shown to reduce post-operative pain and need for analgesics, while facilitating an earlier return to work when compared to traditional open and electrocautery procedures.1,11,12

Procedure for the Prolapse of Hemorrhoids

PPH profileThe Procedure for the Prolapse of Hemorrhoids (PPH) has a unique advantage over traditional hemorrhoidectomies because the procedure is performed above the dentate line inside the anal canal, affecting fewer nerve endings. The hemorrhoids are circumferentially devascularized, so they eventually shrink and involute, while the vascular cushions are raised to a more normal anatomic location. It results in less post-operative pain in the first 14 days and less need for analgesics.8

Our PROXIMATE® PPH Hemorrhoidal Circular Stapler Set includes:

  • The 33mm Hemorrhoidal Circular Stapler – two staggered rows of titanium staples in 33mm diameter size applied in the anal canal to perform a mucosal anastomosis, raising the vascular cushions.
  • The Circular Anal Dilator, a clear obturator, provides smooth insertion and a clear view of the dentate line.
  • The Purse-String Suture Anoscope provides an enhanced translucent purse-string suture anoscope with reference markings – visualization of the anatomy to support precise placement of the purse-string sutures.1
  • The Suture-Threader simplifies suturing with a hook tip that catches suture ends while the 100mm threader passes through casing points.

Traditional Hemorrhoidectomy using HARMONIC® Technology has been shown to result in less pain than traditional techniques (and electrocautery) and may even reduce the number of days off work following the procedure. Providing precise simultaneous cutting and coagulation, it offers optimal hemostasis and efficiency.12,16
