Hemorrhoid Surgery Clinical Outcomes

When compared to traditional “open” surgery for hemorrhoids, minimally invasive procedures offer improved clinical outcomes and quicker recovery, including:

  • Considerably lower post-operative pain scores.8
  • The average pain score for the first bowel movement was significantly lower. 40% reported mild or no pain at all.8
  • Time before first bowel movement decreased by 0.6 days.8

And one study found that:

  • No minimally invasive hemorrhoid procedure patients need to repeat the operation versus 7.6% of traditional hemorrhoid surgery patients.8
  • After a one-year follow up, fewer patients required additional anorectal procedures: 2.6% of patients who undergo minimally invasive procedures versus 13.9% of traditional "open"; surgery patients.8

Economic Outcomes

While average recovery time for a traditional open surgery is 20.7 days, patients who undergo minimally invasive procedures spend 6.7 days recovering.51
